Know where you gain or lose time

The lap timer tells you the result at the finish line. A live delta lets you check it during the lap. Brake a little earlier, try a different line, then see whether you leave the corner ahead of your reference. Wisp compares elapsed time at the same track position, so the comparison follows your progress around the circuit.

−0.42 s Ahead of your reference You reached this point 0.42 seconds sooner.
+0.42 s Behind your reference You reached this point 0.42 seconds later.
Example readings, not a gameplay capture. Colors can be changed in Wisp.

Negative means ahead. Positive means behind. The optional delta bar shows up to two seconds in either direction. The number still shows the full difference outside that range.

Your laps, compared

Choose your reference lap

Complete a full circuit lap before expecting a live comparison. Choose Session best to compare against your fastest reference lap in the current session, or Previous lap to compare against the lap you just completed. Session best gives you a consistent target until you beat it. Previous lap helps you compare consecutive attempts.

This is a comparison with your own laps recorded by Wisp. It is not the gap to the race leader, another driver, or a Rivals ghost. If Forza's checkpoint split and Wisp's delta differ, first check which lap each is comparing against.

Lap timing

Race, Rivals, or Time Attack?

Race / Rivals laps

Select Race / Rivals laps for circuit events that send lap times through FH6 Data Out. Wisp uses the game's lap clocks for these laps.

Time Attack

FH6 does not send lap times for these Time Attack circuits, so Wisp times laps from start-line crossings using the timestamp in the game's telemetry packets. Time spent paused is excluded from the lap.

The Time Attack mode supports these four circuits:

  • Legend Island
  • Hokubu
  • Soni
  • Sekibe

Cross the start line to begin, then complete a flying lap to set a reference. This mode is for the listed circuits, not an automatic timer for any road or point-to-point route.

Live track map · Beta

See your position around the circuit

The map builds an outline from your first full lap, then follows the car around that outline. It gives you a larger view of the circuit beside the delta, so you can connect a time gain or loss with the part of the lap you just drove.

An incomplete outline while Wisp is learning the first lap is expected. This is a learned circuit outline, not a replacement for Forza's navigation map. You can show the track map, change its size, and move it separately from the delta display. Read the live track map guide.

Setup

Add lap delta to your HUD

  1. Connect the game. Use Wisp 2.5 or later on Windows PC, then follow the FH6 Data Out setup. Check that Dashboard receives live readings.
  2. Enable the display. In Appearance > Lap delta, turn on Show lap delta (beta). Choose Race / Rivals laps or Time Attack for the event you are driving.
  3. Choose the comparison. Select Session best or Previous lap, then complete a full lap to establish the reference.
  4. Choose what to show. Open More options for the delta bar, gauge size, Show live track map (beta), map size, and position resets. Delta and track map colors are in Colors.
  5. Place the overlays. Use Edit HUD layout to move the delta and map where you can read them without covering the road. Lock the layout before driving.

Lap delta uses FH6 Data Out on the Steam and Xbox app / Microsoft Store PC versions. It does not require a Steam-only native gauge profile.

Session behavior

What happens when you pause or restart?

Pause or rewind
Your lap, learned track, and reference laps are retained.
Reset, restart, or abandon a Time Attack attempt
The next attempt starts a fresh lap. Stopping for five seconds ends an attempt. Once two laps agree on the circuit, five seconds off it or going the wrong way ends the attempt too.
Leave the circuit
Going to the festival or fast travelling clears the circuit session.
Restart or update Wisp while Forza stays open
Your session best and previous lap are retained.
Change car or timing mode
Wisp starts a new reference session.

To start your own comparison again, use Reset reference laps under More options and complete another full lap.

Beta feedback

If a lap doesn't look right

I'm still refining both features. If timing stops, a reference does not appear after a full lap, or the comparison looks wrong, please report it on GitHub. Include your Wisp version, circuit, timing mode, selected reference, and whether you paused, rewound, or restarted before it happened. Those details help me reproduce the same sequence.

Review your line and inputs afterward in Lap review. For other ways to compare the car, see recorded runs and graphs or the drift angle gauge.
